WE WANT YOU! WHERE ARE YOU?

Kim Miller Boot Camp Testimonial

I am a teacher, who before children loved to water ski, go to the gym, power walk and be active. Then came my first child and within six weeks I was back into normal life and into my old clothes. This is easy, let's do it again! Well, as I've learnt, not all plans go the way we want them to.

I started I.V.F. treatments and with many pregnancies and miscarriages, I began to protect my body and stopped exercising. I was thirty four then and am now heading towards my 45th birthday. I have two beautiful, active children who take their sports to the extremes. I admire their energy, but had no chance of keeping up. My famous saying was "I wish I had half of their energy". I knew I had to do something about my fitness just so that I could stay a part of my children's life.

Like all of us though, I had an endless list of excuses. The gym didn't fit my lifestyle - I had two children to run around, a job to go to and a shift working husband who worked 12 hour shifts. I commented to a friend one day that I wished I could get fit fast without having to join a gym and waste the money when I knew it would wear off when I became too busy. She suggested Boot Camp. She had attended and gave me the details. I contacted Anna, knowing that it probably wouldn't suit me (I'm not a morning person) and that I could then add that excuse to my repertoire. Anna called back, discussed how it could work for me and before I knew it I was in the car and heading out for my first session. Wow! Wasn't that memorable- and for all the wrong reasons.

I managed to run about 100metres before feeling like I wanted to throw up. My final memory was me lying on the grass and Anna offering to drive me home.

Everyone kept saying it gets better - how could it get worse! I was driven by the fact that I couldn't miss a session for fear of penalties that I knew I probably couldn't do and kept telling myself that it's only fifteen sessions and I don't have to be here again. I am now due to sign up for my fourth month at boot camp. I still have a long way to go, but now know that Boot Camp is not only for the supper fit people, but for anyone (especially those of us who have all of the excuses).

I know I couldn't have made it without Anna and her guidance and encouragement and I thank her for that. There are no put downs or embarrassments, just a great bunch of people, with lots of different reasons for being there, who really are a team. I now look forward to my sessions because for 45 minutes, three times a week I don't think about the children, my work, housework or how I'm going to make it through the day - I just think about me and what a better person I am for taking this giant step.
