Where do you want to go?
Anna Junghans, one of the owners and operators of Brisbane business Executive Results, is especially passionate about encouraging and supporting people to achieve and maintain weight loss goals. Unlike many personal trainers and workers in the fitness industry, Anna actually has been there herself so understands the difficulties and challenges facing people who are overweight and trying to lose weight.
From the age of five until her early twenties Anna struggled with her weight. For most of this time she was a yo-yo dieter, continually losing and regaining weight. Living on an unhealthy diet of junk food, she tried all the latest and greatest pills and products to lose weight. Like many people who are overweight, Anna wanted an overnight miracle.
In her early twenties, desperate to look good, look hot, wear great clothes, Anna started going to a gym, initially without changing her eating habits. But feeling self conscious around other gym members who looked after their bodies, she started making changes to her diet. Even with small changes to her eating habits, along with exercise, Anna saw results. Starting at 100 plus kilograms, Anna now weighs 62 kilograms, competes as a body builder and works as a personal trainer. She went from size 18 to size 10.
Today Anna still works hard to maintain her weight. “People say, ‘You look fantastic’, but I work really hard to look like this”, says Anna. “I love what I do and I practice what I preach. I know what it is like to be overweight and to struggle with weight issues and losing weight.”
“I have also seen amazing results with my clients. Hard work equals results!” states Anna. “It all starts with a change of mindset. If this doesn’t happen then you aren’t ready. You really must take a look deep down inside yourself and ask the question, ‘How much do I want this?’ and you need to want it bad enough!”
“Today with busy lifestyles there are so many excuses: ‘I’m too busy to go to the gym; It’s too late to cook dinner so let’s pick up takeaway…’. My motto is: ‘There are NO excuses, if you really want it.’”
“The hardest part of losing weight is training your mind. Then comes maintaining – it is not just about 8-12 weeks of effort, it requires a lifestyle change.”
“When starting out I advise people not to go by the reading on the scales. Initially it is more about how you look and feel and how your clothes fit. Many people don’t realise that lean muscle mass is three times the weight of fat.”
“Get a personal trainer who will develop an individual plan for you. Everybody is different – shape, size, metabolism – and what works for one may not work for another.”
“To achieve and maintain weight loss, you need to develop healthy eating habits and move your body.”
